If You’re Involved in An Accident, Look for Cameras
June 24, 2019
Look for Cameras: Video cameras are everywhere! Take a look around as you are at the scene and make not of each and every camera that you suspect may have recorded the scene. Traffic cameras are overwritten every 3 days so you have to order them immediately. You can use the following info to do so:
Requests for traffic signal camera files or signal timing audits can be sent in writing to:
Traffic Department Signals
4700 Elmore Road
The request should include the following:
Location of the incident
Anchorage Police Department: Yes/No
Anchorage Police Department Case Number
Include vehicles involved
Direction of travel
What lane vehicles were in
Type of accident
If not at the intersection provide distance or landmarks where the accident occurred
This information is crucial in the process of acquiring any files that may exist of the incident.
Please note that the cameras only hold approximately 3 days of video. After that the file are overwritten and lost.
Note if the other vehicle has a dashcam. Note all traffic or business/private cameras that may have captured the scene. Ring doorbells are common now, as are business cameras. Make a list and systematically notify each possible camera you can use.
